Internat'l Journal of Environmental Research & Public Health

Published on 10/7/2025
Dear Colleagues,

Please note that I am leading a new Special Issue entitled Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases among Sexual Minority PopulationsAdvancing Sexual Epidemiology for the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Building on prior scholarship that introduced sexual epidemiology as a framework for examining HIV/STI disparities (Dangerfield II 2025), this Special Issue broadens the lens to include infectious disease prevention and control across diverse sexual minority populations. Contributions will highlight innovations spanning the prevention and control continuum: from psychological to structural determinants of sexual behaviors, to analyses of sexual experiences, to novel approaches for measuring sexuality and related behaviors. Link to the full call for papers is:

Original research articles, qualitative studies, and review papers are welcome. Collectively, we hope these works will situate infectious disease research as a vital domain within an emergent field of sexual epidemiology, while also charting directions for future inquiry. Submission timeline:

  • Abstract submission deadline: November 15, 2025
  • Notification of abstract decisions: December 15, 2025
  • Full manuscript submission deadline: March 15, 2026
  • Notification of first reviews: June 15, 2026
  • Revised manuscript submission deadline: July 31, 2026
  • Final decisions: October 15, 2026

I warmly invite you to submit your work and encourage you to share this call with colleagues who may be interested.Together, we can advance scholarship that promotes equity in infectious disease prevention and care along with sexuality studies. Please let me know if there are questions along the way.

Sincerely,

Derek
